Shanklin Town

One of the most popular holiday destinations on the Isle of Wight, Shanklin has everything you need for a great family holiday or to go to with friends or as a couple. Sandown Bay, which stretches from Culver Down in the North 8.5 miles through Sandown, Lake and Shanklin to the South has previously been a winner of the Beach of The Year in the Countryfile Magazine Awards 2019.

From the long wide sandy beach, perfect for bucket and spade days to the wooded ravine which is Shanklin Chine and the Old Village with its independent shops, restaurants, and pubs, you won’t be short of something to do. Shanklin has all the charm of a proper seaside town and set against the dramatic sandstone cliffs, the beach is one of the most stunning walks to take on the Island. You could rent a beach hut and watch the world go by or try your hand at the water sports on offer or have a paddle.

Whether you’re young or old or somewhere in between there’s plenty to do for everyone. With its mixtures of green spaces, beach and town, parks, and gardens, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Sit in the peaceful and tranquil Rylstone Gardens, take a picnic, and just relax. Have a look at their programme of events and you may find yourself being serenaded by a band on the bandstand.

Go and see a show at Shanklin Theatre which has an amazing mix of professional and amateur shows as well as concerts and comedy to choose from. Take the kids to the Esplanade and spend some pennies on traditional seaside games and amusements and take advantage of the wide range of pubs and cafes or walk through Shanklin Chine and admire this unique gorge with its rare plants and delightful waterfall.

The Old Village with its pretty thatched cottages and history, housing gift shops and tea rooms is the perfect spot for a cream tea or a light lunch. There are also miles of cycle ways and footpaths for you to enjoy so come prepared to get yourself some all-important vitamin D. And during the summer months, there are carnivals and the Shanklin Regatta to enjoy, which add to the excitement of your holiday.

Cream tea? Light lunch? Traditional fish and chips? Locally caught crab and lobster. Whatever your foodie pleasures, you’ll find it in Shanklin. From traditional cafes, tea rooms, pubs, and restaurants to an ice cream beside the seaside, you’ll have no problem pleasing everyone. Lots of venues have live music, quizzes, and entertainment at weekends and during the summer months so it’s well worth having a look to see what’s going on. Many pubs and restaurants serve local ales and produce sourced from the Island so that you really will be able to taste and eat the Wight.

A beautiful spot! Walking paths out the back door. Cozy. A generous number of essentials. Groceries are a beautiful walk through the woods to a Morrison super store (but bring you boots if its wet)! A growing farm of very well cared for sheep, alpacas, horses and ponies completes the picturesque scene.

Would defo want to stay here again.

Karen - May 2021
We had an amazing stay at Queen Bower Farm Lodge in May half term 2021. We had a very warm welcome from Yasmin including the most delicious carrot cakes on arrival. The lodge is well equipped and comfortable (easily accommodating up to five - with lots of space to unpack). Throughout is beautifully furnished with lots of homely touches. We didn’t spend much time indoors but the lodge is well equipped with a smart TV in each room, WiFi and a selection of board games including IOW Monopoly and Farmopoly! Dogs are welcome with bowls and towels supplied. There is a lovely enclosed garden to the rear of the property, perfect for outside dining. There is also seating to the front of the property, perfect for watching the comings & goings of the farm. The owners dogs are very friendly and will come and visit you here if invited. There is more outside space to enjoy in the adjacent camping field (just a few caravans permitted) perfect for outdoor games, a picnic or a stroll to enjoy the views over to Culver cliffs. The lodge is ideally situated to explore the island although you may just choose to stay nearby; there are numerous walks, bridle paths and cycle paths direct from the farm. We also loved just staying at the lodge and enjoying the outside space. We were invited to meet all of the animals on the farm; horses, Shetland ponies, chickens, geese, orphaned lambs and a rescued piglet! We loved hearing the rescue stories and how Naughty Nash (Shetland pony) got his name. My 12yr old daughter absolutely adored all the animals and the farm’s dogs rather become her pets for the week! There is plenty of wildlife to enjoy in the outdoor space and the nature reserve, a short walk away is a perfect spot to see the island’s red squirrels who are well looked after by the locals and are happy to come up close. Queen Bower Farm Lodge is an absolute gem, perfect for a peaceful and relaxing break or a more active walking / cycling holiday. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We can’t wait to come back

Yasmin and family makes lovely carrot Cake muffins to welcome you to your holiday The lodge was very clean and sanatised and how we Needed for jack our son, He loved the animals horses and dogs chickens As well. we will be back 5 out of 5 all the best Bob sue and jack x

A little gem

Left on Sep 1, 2019 for a stay in Aug 2019
We were greeted by the friendly owners and the smell of freshly baked chocolate muffins, a lovely gesture that set the tone for the rest of the holiday. The accommodation is situated on the owners farm and is modern and airy. It is situated close to most of the Island’s attractions and makes an ideal to explore the island. The owners made a particular effort with my eight year old grandson and were happy to show him the horses and other animals on the farm. All in all we had a wonderful week and would certainly recommend it. We intend to return in the near future.

“I have to say, I’ve been coming over to the Island for thirteen years on the trott and I’ve finally found this place of relaxing and comfortable accommodation. I genuinely mean the five stars and top marks all round as it was all exactly what I was looking for. Yasmins hospitality and the extra little touches where perfect for my needs and I will be coming back. She couldn’t have been more helpful and I look forward to bringing the rest of my family over for a visit. Thanks for having me. Josh”
